Position:  Kenton County Public Library is seeking a full-time, Programmer to provide library programs and services.  The position will primarily be responsible for design and delivery of family and children's programming.  Work hours are variable with evening and weekend hours required.

Responsibilities:

  • Plans and implements quality programming for library patrons. Focus will be serving our juvenile patrons and their families in the library.  Will include large scale programs.
  • Provide science, technology, reading, engineering, art and math (STREAM) related programming utilizing the Covington Children's Creative Lab (C3Lab)/makerspace. Continually develops the space to remain current.
  • Plans, promotes and implements library outreach programs with schools and other agencies commensurate with community needs and library goals and objectives. Includes serving on the Library's STREAM team.
  • Creates monthly passive program opportunities for the Covington branch.
  • Coordinate with other departments and branches for system-wide programs.
  • Prepares comprehensive written report on monthly activities and compiles appropriate statistics on program attendance.
  • Works with the PR department to promote programs which can include appearing on local network television, posting on social media and creating flyers.
  • Provides reference assistance via the following methods: in person, telephone, email, and chat service. Uses a wide variety of print and electronic resources.  Will be cross trained at all service points but will be primarily be assigned to work the Children's service desk. 
  • Works with Patron Experience manager/Children's Librarians to create displays, process new materials and withdraw old materials.
  • Will plan and implement department themed decorating for large programs and Summer Reading.
  • Stays current on library programming trends for all ages by attending workshops, conferences, webinars...etc.
  • Enforce the Code of Conduct, Internet Use, Safe Child, and similar policies in a proactive and impartial manner. May act as a staff-in-charge.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree and related work experience required.
  • Elementary education/Science/Technology/Engineering related experience is a plus.
  • Excellent communications/public relations skills along with strong service orientation.

o   Interpersonal skills to effectively deal with the public and coworkers in a positive, professional manner.

o   Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment.

  • Ability to work individually or within a group environment with a diverse population, including individuals, agencies, and businesses.
  • Must have sense of humor
  • Evenings, weekends, and "out of library" hours required.
  • Ability to define and solve problems; be able to work alone or within groups; have awareness of community resources and contacts; and be highly self-motivated.
  • Computer skills including MS Office, Internet, and experience with electronic databases and resources, and ebooks.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain certification through the Kentucky State Board for the Certification of Librarians.
  • Valid driver's license and means of transportation to fulfill job responsibilities.
  • Must be able to lift 30 lbs. and carry 10 ft; must be able to push and/or pull 100 lbs.
